Where did it all begin?

Elite development programs for junior players by Netball SA have experienced great change over the years.

In the 1990’s Netball SA had a Northern and Southern Metro Academy. During the 90’s SASI also developed  high performance and development junior squads. Around 2010 Marg Angove started ‘Sparrows’ as an elite junior development program to come up to speed with interstate development programs. Two age groups were formed.  These teams trained and played in the AMND Summer competition. From around 2005 Country Academy teams were created and they play in a country Academy carnival once a year. In 2012 Netball SA changed its Sparrows program to be called Metro Academy, to fall into line with the country programs.

In 2017 many clubs will have developed their own Academy programs in place of the SA Netball supported program. Netball SA is currently forming a new structure for its junior development.

One Netball

One Netball was created with the aim to make netball more accessible to the diverse needs of Australia’s population, in support of netball Australia’s strategic vision to ensure that everyone in Australia values their connection with netball.

Our goals

The goals of the Australia Post One Netball Program are to:

  • Build capacity within netball to extend the reach of netball into diverse communities
  • Engage Australia’s netball community in a dialogue about creating more inclusive environments
  • Invest in programs and activities that create connection within communities
